About the Position: The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Project Coordinator, Food Supply Systems to provide technical expertise in developing Last Mile Vendor (LMV) businesses. They will be responsible for identification, selection and supporting business to increase the access of safe, fresh and variety of vegetables within the project area.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with relevant structures (at national, county, market level), provide technical advice and support the implementation of existing local food safety standards.
- Identify Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) compliant vegetable suppliers and/or suppliers who are meeting the food standards in project implementation counties and link them to last mile vendors for improved sourcing of safe vegetables.

- Coordinate with implementing partners and key stakeholders in the project to train the last mile vendors on various aspects including food safety, business development amongst others.
- Provision of technical support and trainings to mid value chain actors (e.g cold chain storage providers /logistics, retail shops, aggregators), Last Mile Vendors (LMVs) and market committees on the need for traceability systems for food safety and how to use the available/developed systems.
- Participate and contribute to development and implementation of project work plans in collaboration with the project coordinators.
- Provide assistance to the project manager by monitoring the project progress against project workplan and budget.
Education/ Work Experience Requirements:
- The ideal candidate should have experience working with last mile vendors with ability to link them with suppliers compliant with food standards.
- Have a deep understanding and development of food safety and traceability systems.
- You should have strong capacity building skills with a wide variety of stakeholders including experience providing technical support to value chain actors such as cold chain storage providers, aggregators, retail shops, logistics etc.
- The post holder should have solid experience in the Agri-food sector in Kenya, particularly in areas of agriculture, agribusiness, nutrition etc.
- Experience working on donor funded agribusiness projects or with an agribusiness itself in addition to a great understanding of supply chain analysis with a focus on vegetables.
- You should be able to conduct match making events to enhance market linkages in addition to linking vendors to various business development service providers.

Position: Livestock Officer

About the Position: Under the leadership of the Project Manager, the Livestock Officer will be responsible for providing technical support and coordination in implementing training and promoting the adoption of biosecurity, antimicrobial use, and good farm management practices among smallholder farmers in the dairy and poultry value chains.
The Livestock Officer will also support Social and Behaviour Change (SBCC) campaigns to increase farmer knowledge on biosecurity, antimicrobial use, and good farm management practices as well as support efforts to ensure farmer and value chain actors access to financing to implement biosecurity practices.

Responsibilities:
A. Training and Technical Support in Biosecurity, Antimicrobial Use, and Good Farm Management Practices (45%)
- Responsible for leading the review, preparation, and development of training curriculum and materials on biosecurity, antimicrobial use, and farm management as well as animal health and nutrition-related issues.
- Mobilize Community Agrovet Entrepreneurs (CAVES) and technical experts as appropriate, and arrange their training on biosecurity, antimicrobial use stewardship, and farm management practices in collaboration with county governments engaged by the Project.
- Support deployment of farmer training and promote the adoption of biosecurity, antimicrobial use stewardship, and good farm management practices.
- Support research on the Return on Investment (ROI) on the adoption of biosecurity, antimicrobial use, and farm management practices as well as holistic nutrition in poultry and dairy value chains.

B. Project Planning, Administrative Management, Budgeting & Reporting (30%)
- Support the development and implementation of project work plans and budgets in line with the donor and Heifer’s regulations, guidelines, and requirements.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine, Animal Science, or Animal Health from a recognized institution.
- At least five (5) years in animal production, epidemiology research, and monitoring of zoonotic and transboundary diseases, livestock value chain competitiveness, or project management.

The Alternative Livelihoods and Inclusive markets Officer will be a member of the USAID Nawiri Resilient Livelihoods Team and directly responsible for implementing nutrition-sensitive resilient livelihood interventions at sub-county (prioritized wards) level. These include on and off-farm livelihoods, market systems development along crop, livestock value chains, financial inclusion and vocational skills. S/he will work alongside other USAID Nawiri team members in layering interventions for collective impact at household and community level. The position is based at the USAID Nawiri sub-county (sub-office) office level supporting interventions within the sub-county and prioritized wards – that continuously experience high rates of acute malnutrition. S/He will work closely with relevant county officials, CSOs and private sector players involved in livelihoods and food security & nutrition within their areas of operation.
Livelihoods across Samburu are diverse and further diversifying as stability and investment spreads across Kenya’s northern arid lands. Although some communities and households are able to benefit from growth and change, others are struggling to find a place in the increasingly diversified economy. The Alternative Livelihoods and Inclusive markets Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting community and household livelihood activities that support positive nutritional outcomes. Activities will likely include support to poverty graduation models aimed at supporting human capital development, conflict management and peaceful co-existence around natural resource management, and Ward development planning.
S/he will support implementation strategies in coordination with the Field Director and Livelihoods Coordinator. While support will be available from a variety of internal sources, the Alternative Livelihoods and Inclusive markets Officer will largely draw on technical support from Livelihoods coordinator and Livelihoods team of advisors in Nairobi to assist with moving the program forward and supporting partners with technical assistance. It will be critical to ensure that common strategies and approaches are applied that lead to sustainable nutrition outcomes. Program Management

The Livelihoods and Food Security officer will be a member of the USAID Nawiri Resilient Livelihoods Team supporting program implementation at sub-office level. He/she will lead work plan implementation of livelihood interventions as appropriate to context, for sustained vulnerable households’ access to nutrient-dense foods and overall food security despite exposure to shocks and stresses. S/he is directly responsible for supporting all USAID Nawiri Livestock and Agriculture (crop) program activities primarily; and directly implements financial inclusion and enabling market systems to last mile communities to support ultra-poor and the most vulnerable households and strengthening diversified efforts for improved Household Economies. S/he works alongside other officers in layering interventions for collective impact at household and community level. The officer is able to translate how the interconnected actions at household and community level contribute to sustainable household food security and therefore motivate community-driven leadership of actions at local level.
S/he is a member of the team that supports implementation of households’ economic strengthening initiatives working with local resource persons and local implementing organizations. S/he drives implementation of innovative climate smart agriculture approaches including crop through irrigation in selected irrigation schemes and communities with permanent water sources. He/she supports communities/households uptake fodder production, improved livestock and ecological practices to secure milk availability, especially through the dry season.
The position is based at the USAID Nawiri sub-county (sub-office) office level supporting interventions within the sub-county and prioritized wards -that continuously experience high rates of acute malnutrition. S/He will work closely with relevant sub-county, ward officials, village level officials, CSOs and private sector players involved in livelihoods and food security & nutrition within their areas of operation.
