Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, on Saturday, launched another high milk processing plant with a capacity to pasteurize 1000 litres of milk per hour which is triple the 300 litres per hour of Kikima Dairy Plant that the county installed last year.
The new factory, Kathonzweni Milk Processing Plant which will help provide market for dairy farmers in the county and beyond was installed by the county govenment in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Kenya, through the International Livestock and Research Institute (ILRI).
“We have today handed over a milk processor to Kathonzweni Dairy Farmers that will help in enhancing milk processing in the area and the county at large nd help farmers get market for their produce,” said Kibwana.
The new plant is worth Sh57m.

It is hoped that the new plant will triple milk processing in the country as compared to Kikima Dairy Plant which was projected to increase the dairy product processing from 17 million litres of milk annually in the previous years to 18 million litres annually.
The county has milk consumption demand of 340 million litres annually and it is expected that the two plants will help meet the demand.
