Who we are

FarmBiz Africa is operated by Jethco Ltd, registered in the United Kingdom. We provide news, prices, weather, free courses and paid research opportunities for smallholder farmers, primarily in Kenya and the wider East African region.

What data we collect

  • Membership: phone number, a password, display name, and optionally an email address, county and primary crops. Your phone number is used to sign you in; an email is only used to recover your account and is never sold.
  • Your farm and learning: the village you save for weather, your course progress and certificates, and the Earn programmes you register for.
  • Marketplace listings: when you post a farm job, offer farm work, or list inputs or services, the details and contact phone you enter are shown to other members.
  • Research leads: if you contact us through the research or contact forms, your name, organisation, email and message are stored so we can respond.
  • Usage analytics: we use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count page views and see which features are used. This sets no tracking cookies on your device.

Cookies and consent

We show a short consent prompt when you first visit. Because our analytics are cookieless and our only other on-device storage is the sign-in session needed to keep you logged in, most of what we do does not require consent under the EU ePrivacy rules. You can dismiss the prompt and the site keeps working. You can clear it any time by clearing site storage.

Legal bases

We rely on contract (running your membership), legitimate interest (aggregate analytics to improve the platform), and consent (for any optional marketing or research contact). You must be 18 or older to become a member.

Cross-border data transfer

Personal data is stored in the European Union (Supabase, London region). If you are in Kenya, your data crosses into the UK/EU. We rely on the UK's adequacy decision framework and standard contractual clauses where applicable, in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

Your rights

  • Access & portability: download all your data as JSON from Settings.
  • Deletion: end your membership and delete all associated data from Settings.
  • Correction: edit your profile at any time.
  • Complaint: to the UK ICO (ico.org.uk) or the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (odpc.go.ke) in Kenya.
