About You

You will have hands-on experience doing programmatically relevant research in Kenya, independently, and in collaboration with local research counterparts. 
  • Candidates with experience in other countries, particularly in East Africa and demonstrable understanding of nutrition and food systems, the policy process or of environmental sustainability or gender issues related to food systems would be an asset. 
  • The postholder should have strong communication and presentation skills and willing to work with diverse groups/individuals. You will be proficiency in written and spoken English, candidates will knowledge in French would be an advantage. In addition, you should be highly flexible and able to travel domestically regularly and international occasionally. 
  • A Master’s degree in nutrition, agriculture, sustainable development, economics, development studies, policy/political economy or related field. You will have skills with data analysis software, such as R, Stata, SAS, or SPSS; or nVivo or ATLAS.ti and formal training in research methods.

This includes content for participating in negotiations, conferences, and workshops to advocate for Kenya’s and Africa’s adaptation priorities. Mobilizing Finance for Adaptation: 

  • In line with Kenya’s and Africa’s call for increased financing for adaptation, the consultant will play a pivotal role in positioning Kenya and Africa on the global stage in mobilizing investment and resources for climate adaptation. The consultant will lead development of bankable proposals for funding on agriculture and food systems. This will call for coordination between the Envoy’s office and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the National Treasury to catalyze the development of a pipeline of projects for funding from international climate funds such as the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund, bilateral and multilateral donors, and private sector investments.   • You will generate and compile insights into young farmer priorities, barriers, needs, pain points and aspirations. 
  • Inform One Acre Fund’s Youth Strategy and Programming – 
  • Based on research and learnings, you will help to inform and scope new products and services to pilot, which are attractive and impactful for young farmers. 
  • You will support on evaluation of pilots, with a focus on impact, cost-effectiveness and scalability.
