Seed Review: Sheba is currently highest sunflower oil earner in Kenya

4 min read

By Lyzzie Owade

The most cost-effective sunflower seed in Kenya for producing oil, the H8998, is out-of-stock  country-wide and long-term, due to production issues, but Kenya Shaba is delivering by far the highest yield per acre, at one of the lowest costs for seed per litre of oil.

Overall, Kenya Shaba is our top choice for farmers to get the highest returns in sunflower oil this season.

We give below, the prices, yields, and oil production for each seed, ranked by the lowest seed cost by litre of oil, and with a comparison table, below, on their productivity in oil per acre. All information has been sourced directly from the seed producers and sellers in May 2025.

On the basis of this information, Kenya Shaba appears as number 4 at seed cost per litre of oil, but will give farmers by far the highest income from oil sales for each acre.
