Position: Intern – CGIAR hub for sustainable finance (ImpactSF), Nairobi

About the position: We are looking for an intern to work within the ClimARM project, within the ImpactSF Unit. The intern would also provide support to the Ag360 Fund provided as a grant by Convergence which aims to unlock financing through a blended Finance Debt Fund for the adoption of Bio char as a tool to valorise agriculture waste, fund soil health improvements and decarbonize value chains, which face challenges of scaling. Position: Project Manager – Circular Economy for Household Organic Waste (CE4HOW)

Employer: Practical Action

Location: Kisumu

About the position: The objective of the project is to create a commercially viable circular economy model for household organic waste, that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves household waste services, and transforms the lives of informal waste workers.

Household organic waste makes up over 60% of municipal waste but is currently un-valued, uncollected, and a source of pollution. The project will create an urban waste collection system in Kakamega, Kenya, to feed 4,000 tonnes pa of household organic waste into Regen Organic’s (part of Sanergy Inc.) new waste processing plant. This will be converted into organic fertiliser and animal feed, providing regenerative inputs for local farmers who in turn supply food to the urban area, creating a circular economy. The innovation is in incentivising household separation of waste and creating privately run aggregation centres that can profitably integrate waste into Regen Organic’s supply chain, whilst creating decent jobs.

Practical Action is looking for a Project Manager who will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery, building relationships with County Government, community stakeholders and informal waste workers for a participatory approach to a citywide action plan and implementation of actions and a behaviour change campaign.

• A degree in international development, rural development or a related field and at least five years’ experience managing rural development programs in Kenya and/or another East Africa Country.

Accountabilities: 

Leadership and Strategic Alignment

• Identify key stakeholders and potential collaborators for waste management initiatives.

• Develop cost analysis and financial model for waste management practices.

• Lead the development, review and updating of an influencing plan for waste management. Set relevant global indicator targets and work with MEL staff to track progress.

• Consider gender and inclusion issues as key in strategy, Theory of Change mapping, technical approach choice and implementation plan Develop, review and update the theory of change systems map for solid waste management, to analyses the nature, causes and scale of the problem.

Position: Technology Transfer Officer-TAAT Maize Compact

Position: Agriculture Research & Partnerships Manager

Employer: One Acre Fund

Location: Nairobi

About the position: You’ll report to the Global Director of R&D, and work within the Global Impact team, which combines agronomy, data science, qualitative research, and SBC skillsets. The team coordinates an R&D program spanning several countries, makes recommendations to country programs on how the products and recommendations we offer to farmers can be improved, and then supports them in delivering those recommendations to farmers through multiple channels, working in collaboration with other global teams with specialist skills for example in communications, design, video, etc.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science, or related field. Advanced degree (MSc/Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Expertise in at least two of (a) fertilizer formulation & evaluation, (b) soil carbon dynamics (c) crop physiology and GxExM interactions, (d) systems agronomy

Position: Planning and Monitoring Officer

About the position: AU-IBAR, with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), is implementing a project on “Conserving Aquatic Biodiversity in African Blue Economy”, for three year’s period. The overall objective of the project is to enhance the policy environment, regulatory frameworks and institutional capacities of AU member states and regional economic communities to sustainably utilize and conserve aquatic biodiversity and ecosystems.

Qualifications: 

Academic Requirements

  • The incumbent should have an advanced University degree in Strategic Management, Project Planning and Management or related fields. An academic degree and relevant experiences in the field of Animal Resource and their ecosystems such as Fisheries and Aquaculture, Environmental Science, Agriculture and Veterinary would be an added advantage.

General Experience

  • At least 7 years of continuous working experience at senior and advisory positions in Results-Based Management (project planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation) environment

Responsibilities: 

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Expert technical support to the FARM global child project, as well as regional child projects, and successful project management of the FARM global child project execution.
  • Engage stakeholders and co-finance partners to bring in external knowledge into the FARM programme and support replication of FARM results globally;

About the position: The FEWS NET EWT maintains field offices in Africa, Central America, Asia, and the Caribbean. These offices are organized into various regions to facilitate technical and administrative management. Each regional office is composed of a cadre of technical experts and administrative staff led by a Regional Representative (RR), who serves as the technical and administrative head of that office. In addition, the RR is responsible for supporting and supervising field offices in their respective region in the following activities:

  • Efficient, focused food security monitoring, data collection, assessment, and early warning analysis
  • Effective communication of early warning analysis to partners and decision-makers though high-quality reports and participation in briefings and formal and informal meetings
